Much of Southsea is made up of Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing, and on a terrace the guttering often runs continuously from one house to the next. That means a blocked outlet or a failed joint on one property can send water spilling onto the neighbouring wall, and a proper fix sometimes needs to consider the whole run, not just your section.
We’re a family-run business based along the coast in Westbourne, with more than 25 years in business. We’ll explain what’s causing the problem and what it will take to fix, in plain English.
What We Do
Repairing Leaks and Sagging Runs
Most gutter faults come down to a handful of causes: a perished joint seal, a cracked section, a bracket that has snapped or pulled out, or a run that has dropped so water no longer flows to the outlet. We identify which it is and repair it, replacing only what needs replacing.
New Gutters and Downpipes
Where the existing guttering is brittle, split or badly distorted, we fit a new system using Eurocell products, with a choice of ogee (K-style), deep-flow, half-round or box-style profiles. Copper, steel or cast iron can be fitted on request for period homes. On qualifying uPVC fascia board and soffit installations of more than 10 metres, we supply the replacement gutters free of charge.
Clearing Blocked Gutters
Leaves, moss and silt build up in gutters and outlets over time. We clear them out, flush the downpipes and check the system for damage, so a simple blockage doesn’t turn into a leak.
The Roofline Behind Your Gutters
Guttering is only as secure as the fascia board it’s fixed to. If the timber behind yours has rotted, we can replace it along with the soffits; see Fascia and Soffit Replacement in Portsmouth for details.
Guttering on Terraced Houses: What to Know
- Your gutter may be shared. On many terraces, one continuous run serves several houses, with outlets and downpipes shared between neighbours.
- Blockages travel. A blocked outlet next door can cause your section to overflow, even if your part is clear.
- Replacing one section is possible. If only your length is damaged, it can usually be replaced and joined to your neighbours’ guttering, although matching the profile matters.
- Access can be tight. Narrow streets and rear alleys can affect how the job is done, which we’ll explain when we quote.
We’re happy to talk to neighbours directly if a repair involves shared guttering.

Portsmouth Guttering Questions
My neighbour’s gutter is overflowing onto my wall. What can I do?
It’s worth talking to your neighbour first. If the guttering is shared, clearing or repairing the section causing the problem usually needs their agreement. We can look at the run and explain where the fault is.
Can you match old guttering?
We’ll aim to match your existing profile. Where that isn’t possible, we’ll explain the options, including replacing a longer section so it looks right.
Do you work in Southsea?
Yes, along with the rest of Portsmouth, including Fratton, Milton, Eastney, Copnor and Cosham.
How do the free gutters work?
On qualifying uPVC fascia board and soffit installations of more than 10 metres, we supply the replacement gutters free of charge. We’ll confirm whether your job qualifies.
Is there a charge for quoting?
No. It’s free and there’s no obligation.
