Fascia and Soffit Replacement in Portsmouth
Fascias and soffits don’t get much attention until something goes wrong with them. Paint starts flaking off the timber, a gutter begins to sag away from the wall, or birds find their way in through a gap under the eaves. By the time most homeowners notice, the boards have usually been struggling for a while.
All Round Roofing Ltd replaces fascias, soffits and roofline cladding for homeowners across Portsmouth and Southsea. We’re a family-run roofing company, established over 25 years ago and based just along the coast in Westbourne, and roofline work is a regular part of what our team does week in, week out.
If your boards only need attention in one or two places, we’ll say so. If the whole roofline has reached the end of its life, we’ll show you why before we recommend replacing it — and every fascia and soffit installation we carry out is covered by our 10-year workmanship guarantee.
What Fascias and Soffits Actually Do
It helps to know what these boards are there for, because it explains why a failing roofline causes problems further down the line.
The fascia is the long board running along the bottom edge of your roof. It closes off the ends of the rafters, supports the lowest course of tiles or slates, and carries your guttering. If the fascia softens or distorts, the gutter fixed to it loses its fall and its grip.
The soffit is the board underneath, bridging the gap between the fascia and the wall of the house. It keeps birds, insects and wind-driven rain out of the roof space, and on many homes it also plays a part in ventilating the loft.
Together they form your roofline. When they’re sound, you rarely think about them. When they fail, the effects tend to show up in the gutters, on the walls below the eaves and sometimes in the loft.
Signs Your Fascias and Soffits Need Attention
Some roofline problems are obvious from the pavement. Others take a closer look. Common signs include:
- Flaking paint, soft spots or visible rot on timber fascia boards.
- Guttering that sags, drips at the joints or has started to pull away from the board behind it.
- Gaps, cracks or missing sections in the soffit, particularly at corners.
- Birds, wasps or other pests getting into the eaves.
- Water staining or streaks on the brickwork just below the roofline.
- Older uPVC boards that have become brittle, cracked or badly discoloured.
- Boards that have warped or bowed so the roofline no longer looks straight.
Spotting one of these doesn’t automatically mean the whole roofline needs replacing. A single rotten length of timber or a damaged soffit panel can sometimes be dealt with on its own. What matters is finding out how far the problem goes before deciding what to do about it.
Why Rooflines Wear Quickly in Portsmouth

Most of Portsmouth, including Southsea, sits on Portsea Island in the Solent, so homes here are exposed to salt-laden air and strong winds coming off the sea. Both are hard on exposed timber and painted surfaces.
Southsea in particular is made up largely of dense Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing. Painted timber fascias and soffits need regular repainting to stay protected, and once the paint breaks down, moisture can get into the timber and cause rot.
Replacing ageing timber with uPVC avoids that problem. Once it’s fitted, a uPVC roofline doesn’t need repainting and won’t rot, which makes it a practical choice for a coastal home.
Our Fascia, Soffit and Cladding Services in Portsmouth
Full uPVC Fascia and Soffit Replacement
For most homes where the existing boards are past their best, a full replacement gives the most dependable long-term result. We remove the old fascias and soffits, deal with what we find behind them, and fit new uPVC boards to finish the roofline cleanly. We use established roofline brands such as Eurocell, and the work is covered by our 10-year guarantee on fascias and soffits.
Replacing Damaged or Rotten Sections
Not every roofline needs stripping back completely. If the damage is limited to one elevation, a bay, or a length of board that has taken the worst of the weather, we’ll talk you through whether a targeted replacement makes sense for your home or whether the rest of the roofline is likely to follow soon after.

Roofline Cladding
Alongside fascias and soffits, we fit cladding to finish off exposed areas such as dormer cheeks, gable ends and bay fronts. It’s a tidy way to cover tired surfaces that would otherwise need regular painting and maintenance, and it can be planned in with your fascia and soffit work so everything is completed together.
New Guttering Fitted With Your Roofline
Because the gutter is fixed to the fascia, replacing the boards is a natural time to renew the guttering too. We use Eurocell products for gutter replacements, and on qualifying uPVC fascia board and soffit installations of more than 10 metres, we supply the replacement gutters free of charge.
If your gutters are the main concern rather than the boards behind them, our Gutter Repairs in Portsmouth page covers repairs, blockages and full gutter replacement in more detail.
Repair, Replace or Cover Over?

You may have been told that the quickest option is to fit new uPVC boards straight over the existing timber. On a sound, dry fascia that can sometimes be appropriate. The trouble is that it hides whatever is going on underneath, and if the timber behind is already soft, rotten or damp, covering it up simply moves the problem out of sight rather than solving it.
That’s why we look at the condition of the existing boards before recommending a method. Where the timber is sound, we’ll explain your options. Where it isn’t, we’ll show you what we’ve found so you can see for yourself why replacement is the better route. Either way, you’ll know what you’re paying for and why, before any work starts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you cover Southsea and the rest of Portsmouth?
Yes. We replace fascias and soffits throughout Portsmouth, including Southsea and the surrounding parts of the city, and we regularly work in neighbouring areas such as Havant, Waterlooville and Emsworth.
How long does it take to replace fascias and soffits?
It depends on the size of the house, how many elevations are being done, what we find behind the old boards and how easy the roofline is to reach. Replacing a single elevation on a terraced house is a very different job from a full roofline on a detached home, so we’ll give you a realistic idea of timescales when we quote.
Will I need scaffolding?
That depends on the height of the roofline and the access around your property. We’ll explain what’s needed for your home when we provide your quotation, so there are no surprises later.
Can you replace just one section rather than the whole roofline?
Often, yes. If the damage is limited to one area and the rest of the roofline is in good condition, a targeted replacement can be the sensible choice. If we think the remaining boards are close to failing, we’ll tell you honestly so you can decide whether to do it all at once.
Is new guttering included?
On qualifying uPVC fascia board and soffit installations of more than 10 metres, we supply replacement gutters free of charge. For smaller jobs, we can quote for new guttering alongside the roofline work so everything is fitted together.
What guarantee do I get?
Fascia and soffit installations are covered by our 10-year workmanship guarantee.
